About Me

My name is James Rioux and I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada along with my wife, Kim Brewer. I have undergraduate degrees in Physics and Computer Science from the University of New Brunswick and am currently a Ph.D. student at Dalhousie University.

My current research is carried out in collaboration with the National Research Council, at the NRC-IBD Atlantic Biomedical MRI Research Lab. My project involves magnetic resonance imaging of stem cells that have been magnetically labelled with super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. I am helping to develop a quantitative approach for imaging these labeled cells, which may someday be used to non-invasively evaluate the progress of stem cell therapies or anti-cancer vaccines.

In my spare time, such as it is, I enjoy reading science fiction and philosophy, writing, cross-stitching and video gaming. I practice mindfulness meditation and for the last ten years have been a Certified Tarot Master; I still occasionally perform online readings for the American Tarot Association's Free Tarot Network.
